Passports

Passport valid for at least six months required by all nationals referred to in the chart above.

Visas

Required by all nationals referred to in the chart above except:
(a) those continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft within six hours, provided holding confirmed onward tickets and documents.

Visa Note

(a) The Sudanese authorities refuse entry and transit to holders of passports that contain visas for Israel (either valid or expired). (b) Special permits are required for all travel outside Khartoum. These can be obtained from the Passport and Immigration Office, Ministry of Interior, Khartoum. (c) Travellers staying in Sudan for longer than three days must report to the police within 24 hours of arrival. (d) Nationals not referred to in the chart above are advised to contact the embassy to check visa requirements.

Visa Restrictions:
The government of Sudan refuses admission and transit to nationals of Israel; and might not accept other passports containing Israeli stamps or visas.

Types of Visa and Cost

Single-entry Tourist, Business or Transit: £95 for USA passport holders and £55 for other nationals (these costs apply to the embassy in the UK).

Validity

Tourist or Business: One month from the date of issue. Transit: One to seven days.
Visits may be extended through the Passport, Immigration and Nationality Office in Khartoum, Sudan.

The national airline is Sudan Airways (SD).

Approximate Flight Times

From London to Khartoum is 8 hours, including stopover.

Main Airports

Khartoum (KRT) (Civil) is 4km (2 miles) southeast of the city. To/from the airport: Taxi services are available. Facilities: Restaurants and duty-free shops.
Departure Tax
US$20 (Sudanese nationals may pay in local currency). Transit passengers (within 24 hours) are exempt.

Getting There by Water

Main ports: Port Sudan and Suakin on the Red Sea.

Piracy has been reported in the area.

There are car ferries from Aswan in Egypt to Wadi Halfa.

Getting There by Rail

Rail links run from Cairo (Egypt) to Aswan High Dam and then by riverboat to Wadi Halfa.

Getting There by Road

Entry to Sudan by road is at present only possible at Wadi Halfa on the Egypt/Sudan border.
